Frascati, Italy, July 15-19
2002

The Artificial Intelligence research group of the
Department of Computer Science, Systems and Production of the
University of Roma Tor Vergata (Italy), in cooperation with the Italian
Association of Artifical Intelligence (AI*IA), is pleased to announce
the Third Summer Convention on Information Extraction (SCIE
2002), to be held in Frascati (Roma), Italy, from July 15
to July 19, 2002.
Following a process activated since first edition
(SCIE97 Multidisciplinary contributions to an emerging Information
Technology , SCIE99 Towards scalable, adaptable systems - LNAI
1714), SCIE02 will deal with a new specific aspects of IE: it will
cover emerging problems related to interaction with Web.
All scientific contributions will be published by
Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series.
The book will be distributed to SCIE02 participants.

Spirit of the
Meeting
Scie02, third edition of an international and
interdisciplinary convention, aims at providing a high quality forum for
discussions on information extraction among researchers and practitioners
active in artificial intelligence, computer science, linguistics, software
engineering. Main covered topics will be: Question/Answering, Dialogue
Analysis, Text summarization, Acquisition of domain models, Terminology
extraction, Multimodal information access, Linguistic agents
interaction.
SCIE02 is not intended to be yet another get
together on linguistic methods for documents processing focused on
selected knowledge extraction; it is rather based on the assumption that,
in a range of places, great strides are being made in real systems
development from a range of practical techniques, points of view and
methodological approaches. We assume that all would benefit from
face-to-face interaction on this!
This initiative is aimed primarily at persons working
in companies, research institutions, universities, information and
documentation centers. SCIE02 will be really an environment in which
each participant is stimulated to get involved actively, supported by the
lecturers and the infrastructure provided by the training programme.
The main aim of this International Convention is to offer a
stimulating learning environment to participants, by offering
several, different opportunities.
The program in fact foresees:
- talks on specific themes held by international experts;
- scientific workshops;
- an on-site Lab in which participants can be involved in
developing/testing activities on a personal base or under working group
responsibility;
- technical meetings;
- on site meetings (that could be arranged on participants
request).
